Kenyan social media personality and controversial car dealer Khalif Kairo, real name Joseph Kairo Wambui, is once again at the centre of a financial storm, this time sparked by a viral video showing auctioneers reportedly repossessing his high-end Porsche Cayenne, a sign of how deep his money troubles have become.
According to the clip making the rounds online, auction officials have been seen taking possession of the luxury SUV, a vehicle once emblematic of Kairo’s flashy lifestyle, as part of efforts to recover debts against him.
This comes amid widespread reports that his car dealership, Kai & Karo, is facing severe financial pressure and legal challenges that have forced auctioneers to recover several of his assets.
From Riches To Repossession
Khalif became a well‑known figure in Kenya’s car importation scene by marketing luxury vehicles and a lavish life on social media.
At the peak of his popularity, he drove expensive cars, including the Porsche Cayenne now reportedly in the hands of auctioneers, and even hosted socialites on elaborate trips abroad.
But in recent years, that image has sharply faltered under mounting legal and financial woes.
According to reports from Nairobi News, auctioneers issued a public notice listing office equipment from Kairo’s Diamond Plaza showroom in Nairobi for sale, citing alleged rent arrears and unpaid debts linked to his business premises.
The list included reception counters, desks, computers, a money‑counting machine and other office items set to be sold on March 11 to satisfy creditors.
Auction Notice Raises Eyebrows
The auction notice came shortly after Kairo announced on social media that Kai & Karo was transitioning into a “fully digital automotive platform,” suggesting a shift to online operations and the temporary closure of its physical office.
While he framed the move as innovation, critics took to social media to claim the digital pivot was a tactic to deflect attention from unpaid rent and impending asset seizures.
This environment of online debate intensified after the video surfaced showing action against his Porsche, a car many saw as a symbol of his previously wealthy lifestyle.
The footage seemed to underscore how dramatically his fortunes have changed in a relatively short time.
Troubles Go Beyond Unpaid Rent
Kairo’s financial troubles are not limited to auctions.
Court documents and multiple media reports outline a series of legal battles tied to alleged fraudulent car importation deals.
In 2025 he was charged with tax fraud for allegedly mis‑declaring a luxury Range Rover import to evade customs duty of more than Sh1.2 million, a charge he denied.
He has also faced separate allegations from clients who claim they paid millions of shillings for vehicles that were never delivered, such as a Honda Vezel and a Subaru SUV, adding to the shadow over his business.
In earlier court filings, Kairo reportedly told a magistrate he was broke and unable to raise bail money, at one point showing a bank balance of around Sh61,000, a stark contrast to his former public image.

A Personal Story Mid Financial Wreckage
While critics have focused on business missteps, Kairo has shared posts explaining that the past two years have been personally difficult.
He claims to have processed refunds worth millions to settle disputes and has spoken openly about caring for a terminally‑ill parent, a period he described as among the toughest of his life.
Nonetheless, the accumulation of unresolved client complaints, legal charges and now public auctions of his assets has left many questioning the future of Kai & Karo, and whether someone once seen as a young business success will ever fully reclaim that status.
For now, the auctioneer actions, including the reported seizure of his Porsche Cayenne, underscore the extent of his financial descent, sparking debate about accountability, entrepreneurship, and the risks of doing business in the spotlight of social media fame.
Stay tuned as this developing story continues to unfold, including any official statements from Khalif Kairo or the auctioneers about the status of the Cayenne and other assets.
