Reports from South Sudan indicate that multiple bullets struck her thigh in an incident linked to escalating political and social media tensions.

The content creator survived the shooting and was initially treated at a hospital in Juba.

Akuac has since been transferred to Kenya, where she is expected to undergo surgery in Nairobi to have a bullet removed from her left gluteal area.

The shooting is believed to be connected to recent online disputes and political tensions involving supporters of former South Sudan vice president Dr Benjamin Bol Mel and President Salva Kiir’s government, amid an NSS crackdown on political and social media activists like Akuac.

Her shooting has sparked outrage in South Sudan, with many of her supporters condemning the NSS for what they have termed a heinous and unjustified attack.
