DCI hosts German delegation to strengthen strategic security partnership

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday hosted a high-level delegation from Germany on a courtesy visit to DCI Headquarters, Nairobi.

The delegation was officially received by Deputy Director DCI, John Onyango, who represented Director DCI, Mohamed I. Amin.

In his remarks, the Deputy Director highlighted the long-standing strategic partnership between the DCI and the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which has been active since 2013.

He noted that the collaboration has played a key role in advancing Kenya’s national security agenda through capacity building, technical support, and the provision of critical resources.

A significant achievement of this partnership is the modernization of the National Criminal Investigation Academy (NCIA) into a centre of excellence.

The BKA has supported refurbishment of learning facilities, the creation of a fully equipped computer laboratory, and the establishment of a dedicated Crime Scene Simulation Room.

These improvements have enhanced forensic and investigative training, enabling trainers to deliver immersive, scenario-based learning using modern teaching tools.

Beyond institutional development, the collaboration has delivered operational benefits.

DCI officers are now better equipped with advanced tools for crime scene investigations, cyber and digital forensics, anti-narcotics operations, and counter-terrorism efforts.

Additional support includes modern imaging and detection equipment, rapid-response mobility resources, and digital forensic tools, all of which have strengthened border security and improved field response capabilities.

Deputy Director Onyango expressed the DCI’s gratitude to the Government of Germany, emphasizing that the partnership goes beyond material support to embody shared values, mutual trust, and a joint commitment to justice, professionalism, and public safety.

The engagement was also attended by the Director of Training at DCI, Ms. Violet Makhanu, and Deputy Director of Forensics, Mr. Gillion Mwangi.

The visit underscores the continued international collaboration that is enhancing Kenya’s investigative and security capacity amid evolving threats.
