Detectives in Makindu have arrested two men believed to be behind a spate of highway vehicle thefts targeting motorists along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Katee Nzainga and Nelson Musyoki Mbidyo, are accused of orchestrating a series of robberies involving vehicles en route to Uganda, as well as unregistered cars bearing Kenya Dealers (KD) number plates.
In one notable incident on August 28, 2025, the duo allegedly carjacked a black Toyota Harrier with KD plates from a motorist in the Makindu area.
Their arrest, carried out along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway, led to the recovery of several incriminating items.
Among the items seized were a set of registration plates (KDR 885Z), three national ID cards belonging to different individuals, five mobile phones, a wheel spanner, and other assorted items.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. They are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
In a separate operation, detectives have arrested another suspect linked to a livestock theft syndicate operating across Embu and Kerugoya counties.

The suspect, Anthony Macharia Nyaga, was arrested in Embu town and is believed to be a receiver of stolen livestock.
His arrest follows closely on the heels of the apprehension of three other suspects earlier the same day, all believed to be part of the same criminal ring.
Nyaga is currently being held by police as he undergoes processing, with court proceedings expected to follow soon.
Police have intensified efforts to dismantle organized crime rings involved in vehicle and livestock theft across the country.
Authorities are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
