Detectives have arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, after an intelligence-led operation targeting narcotics activities allegedly taking place in the bustling township.
The suspect, identified as Musya Kaluku, alias Hustler, was apprehended at his home within Mtwapa Township following a tip-off that linked him to the illegal trade in narcotics.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives acted on information regarding drug-related activities in the area before moving in on the suspect’s residence.
A subsequent search of the house reportedly led to the recovery of 35 large rolls of cannabis sativa, which were seized as exhibits.
The discovery has intensified investigations as detectives seek to establish whether the suspect was operating independently or as part of a wider drug distribution network.
Kaluku was taken into custody and is expected to assist investigators as they work to establish the origin of the narcotics, their intended destination and other individuals who may be connected to the alleged trafficking operation.
Mtwapa Drug Trade Under Scrutiny
The arrest comes amid continued efforts by Kenyan law enforcement agencies to disrupt the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in different parts of the country.
Mtwapa, a rapidly growing urban centre along the Kenyan Coast, has experienced significant population growth and commercial activity over the years.
Its strategic location between Mombasa and Kilifi has made it an important residential, entertainment and business hub.

Following the recovery of the cannabis, detectives are expected to widen their probe to determine how the narcotics allegedly reached Mtwapa and whether other suspects are involved.
Investigators will also seek to establish the intended market for the cannabis and identify possible suppliers, couriers or distributors linked to the suspect.
The recovery of the drugs is therefore being treated as part of a broader investigation rather than an isolated arrest.
The DCI has maintained that it remains committed to dismantling networks involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics, particularly those targeting communities and young people.
The agency has also continued to rely on intelligence-led operations and cooperation from members of the public in identifying individuals suspected of engaging in the illicit drug trade.
For now, Musya Kaluku remains in police custody as investigations continue, while the recovered cannabis has been preserved as evidence for the ongoing case.
