Police in Kilifi County launched investigations into the murder of an 80-year-old man who was found hacked to death in Gede, Malindi Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Charo Randu Chengo, was found lying in a pool of blood after he was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants.
The incident was reported on Saturday morning by area Assistant Chief Alexander Nyawa, prompting officers from Gede Police Station, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Watamu and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Malindi to visit the scene.
Investigators found Chengo’s body lying on its right side in a pool of clotted blood.
A preliminary examination revealed that he had sustained three deep cut wounds to the head, including two at the centre of the head and another at the back of the head.
Police said initial findings suggest the elderly man may have been attacked from behind.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to the Malindi Sub-County Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have also launched further investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
And police in Kisumu County launched investigations after the decomposed body of an unidentified man was retrieved from River Sondu Miriu in Nyakach Sub-County.
The body was spotted floating in the middle of the river near Agai area in Olwa Village, Siany Sub-location, South Nyakach Location, on Saturday.
The scene was documented before the body, believed to be that of an adult male, was retrieved from the river with the assistance of members of the public.
Police said the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making immediate identification impossible.
The remains were moved to the Nyakach Sub-County Mortuary, where they are being preserved pending identification by relatives and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police have also appealed to anyone with information that may assist in identifying the deceased to report to the nearest police station as investigations continue into the suspected drowning.
