Elderly woman dies after machete attack in Kwale County


Police in Samburu Sub-County, Kwale County, have launched investigations into the murder of a 63-year-old woman who died after being attacked by an unknown assailant in Mwavumbo Village.

According to police, Halima Nyamvula Dzombo Duruma sustained a severe head injury after she was reportedly cut by an unidentified attacker.

Family members rushed the victim to Mariakani Sub-County Hospital for emergency treatment.

However, Halima succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility.

Her body remains at Mariakani Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting further investigations and a post-mortem examination.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Taru have taken over the case and are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.

No arrests had been reported by the time of the police report, and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Changamwe Sub-County, Mombasa County, are investigating the death of a 48-year-old man whose body was found lying along a pathway near Delta area in Kibarani.

The incident was reported on June 6, 2026. Officers who responded to the scene identified the deceased as Peter Masinde, a resident of Kibarani.

According to preliminary findings, the body was discovered lying on the pathway with no visible external injuries. Investigators established that the deceased had reportedly been unwell for about a week before his death.

Police also recovered prescribed medication from his pockets, lending support to claims that he had been undergoing treatment for an illness.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was removed to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
