The family of Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, a senior official with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has revealed new details surrounding the tragic events leading to her murder.
Aisha, 48, was killed at her home, and her relatives have shared their shock and grief at a press briefing held on Sunday, January 5.
Her brother, Ruadh Said, explained that while the assailants did not steal significant valuables, they specifically targeted documents belonging to the IEBC.
The robbers managed to breach two security walls and bypassed the security guard before gaining entry into the house. In addition to the stolen documents, a TV set was also taken.
“We were shocked when we visited the crime scene.
The robbers jumped over two walls and cut through the dining grill to force their way into the house.
They brutally attacked Aisha and her son, and while they didn’t take much, they stole a TV and tore through an IEBC bag, taking the documents inside,” Said recounted.
Aisha’s son, Abubakar Hassan, expressed his grief, stating that it appeared the attackers’ sole intention was to murder his mother.
“It seems the attackers came with one goal in mind – to end her life, and sadly, they succeeded,” he said in pain.
The family remains puzzled by the motive behind her murder and the theft of the documents.
They are now urging the government to take action and bring the culprits to justice.
“We are asking the government to find these criminals and ensure they are held accountable. We don’t want more innocent people to suffer,” Said appealed.
According to a police report, the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 5, when the robbers broke into Aisha’s home at 3 a.m.
They attacked her and her 18-year-old son with a knife, inflicting severe injuries. Aisha suffered a fatal blow to her head, while her son was also wounded.
Fortunately, he is now receiving medical care and is reported to be recovering.
Aisha was laid to rest on the same day, January 5, as her family continues to demand justice for the senseless crime.
