Veteran sports journalist Carol Radull has made a highly anticipated return to radio after a two-year break.
Spice FM announced her comeback on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, revealing that Radull would be hosting the popular Playground Show alongside her renowned co-presenters, Kieni Githinji and Roy Karuhize.
The trio gained widespread recognition for their chemistry and engaging sports commentary during their time at Classic 105.
“The biggest sports show in Kenya is here with Carol Radull, Kieni Githinji, and Roy Karuhize,” the post read, generating excitement among fans of the show.
Radull, who has long been a staple in Kenya’s sports media landscape, expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the airwaves.
In an X post, she shared, “People, we have been off air for two years. Make a date with us 2-6pm LIVE on Spice FM to talk sports or just be entertained.”
A Storied Career in Broadcasting
Radull’s last radio role was at Radio Africa, where she spent two decades building a successful career, transitioning from a news reporter to senior management.
She became widely recognized as the host of Score Kenya, where her deep knowledge of sports and sharp debating skills made her a household name.
However, her departure from Radio Africa was reportedly under difficult circumstances after a company-wide policy change resulted in her contract not being renewed.
In her farewell post, Radull reflected on her career, stating, “While I respect all the opportunities I got at Radio Africa, most of them management roles, I never believed I was designed to push papers and write reports.
Being on the radio was and still is my first… no, second love after the theatre.”
Beyond her time at Radio Africa, Radull’s career has spanned multiple media outlets.
She has also worked as a sports presenter for Nation Media Group, as well as a producer at the BBC and Reuters.
A Champion for Local Sports
Radull’s influence extends far beyond broadcasting. She is a passionate advocate for local sports and founded Jaza Stadi, an initiative aimed at encouraging Kenyans to support local sporting events.
Her advocacy for athletes has also been notable she has raised awareness about the challenges faced by Kenyan sportspeople, such as the plight of the Kenya women’s amputee football team, who were recently stranded in Germany following the 2024 Women’s Amputee Football World Cup.
Radull has also played a pivotal role in supporting the rehabilitation of Conjestina Achieng, the legendary Kenyan boxer who battled mental health challenges.
As Radull returns to the airwaves, fans are excited to hear her again, both for her insightful sports commentary and her continued advocacy for local athletes.
Her comeback promises to be a major boost for Kenyan sports radio and a welcome return for her loyal audience.
