Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua convened a strategic meeting with former Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from the Mt Kenya region to deliberate on the region’s future political direction.
“I had the opportunity to engage with various leaders and stakeholders from across the region regarding the way forward as we approach the new year,” Gachagua shared, highlighting the importance of consultations in shaping the region’s political landscape.
He described the consultations as insightful and valuable in helping the leaders reflect on their current position, the journey that brought them to where they are today, and the available options as they chart a way forward.
Gachagua emphasized that these discussions were a necessary step to unite the region, build a strong political network, and ensure they play a key role in the national discourse.
The former deputy president continued his talks with several notable former MPs, including Peter Mwathi, Jude Njomo, Wainanina Jungle, Ngunjiri Wambugu, Gichuhi Mwangi, and Kabinga Wathayu, all of whom have played pivotal roles in Mt Kenya politics.

Many attendees voiced their concerns about the current leadership’s direction and called for stronger representation in the national government.
There was also a shared desire for Mt Kenya to reclaim its political influence, ensuring the region remains a key player in national governance.
This meeting comes amid ongoing political shifts, as the region’s leaders seek to maintain relevance and power after the 2022 elections.
The gathering was seen as a significant step in strengthening alliances, fostering collaboration, and formulating a political agenda that could resonate with the people of Mt Kenya as the country moves toward the 2027 general elections.
