Former French Spy Arrested In France Over Child Exploitation Crimes In Kenya

A retired French intelligence officer has been apprehended in eastern France on suspicion of facilitating grave crimes against children in Africa, with a particular focus on Kenya.

Strasbourg Public Prosecutor Clarisse Taron confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Monday and formally remanded in custody on Friday, July 25.

The 58-year-old ex-spy, whose professional assignments frequently took him to Kenya, now faces charges of aggravated human trafficking, rape and sexual assault of minors, as well as the capture, import, and dissemination of pornographic images involving children.

According to a report by the French daily “Le Parisien”, investigators believe the former agent orchestrated and paid for the sexual abuse of children from afar, directing the acts and filming the abuse for his own consumption.

The case came to light thanks to a US-based foundation dedicated to fighting child sexual exploitation, which spotted videos linked to the suspect online and immediately alerted French authorities.

The foundation’s tip-off led to a swift investigation and the subsequent arrest.

This arrest shines a spotlight on the alarming surge in live-streamed child abuse, where children from vulnerable backgrounds are sexually exploited at the request of online clients—often residing in Western countries.

The abuse is either broadcast in real time or recorded and uploaded for other viewers, who sometimes pay to watch the illegal content.

Just weeks ago, Kenyan law enforcement agencies broke up a similar exploitation ring. A Kenyan couple was detained in Mombasa after allegedly attempting to sell their three children—aged 13, 7, and 4 (two girls and a boy)—for sexual exploitation via an online dating platform.

The 41-year-old mother is accused of advertising her children to potential foreign clients, while investigators found that the 52-year-old father had been regularly abusing their eldest daughter.

The couple was arrested by detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Changamwe following a tip-off.

They now face severe charges under Section 15 of Kenya’s Sexual Offences Act, which could result in a life sentence.

The recent cases underscore the urgent need for international cooperation in combating the global scourge of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity related to child abuse.

”If you suspect any case of child exploitation or trafficking, you are encouraged to report it to local authorities or international organizations dedicated to child protection.”
