The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has distances itself from a viral memo purporting that proceedings are underway in the Supreme Court considering the resolution of Parliament.
IEBC, through an official statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, denied the claims holding that the initial press release is fake news as it urged members of the public not to engage in spreading the same.
Nairobi News understands the fake notice in circulation had declared that in case the Chief Justice gave the President the go-ahead to dissolve the house, IEBC would follow the rule of law and run fresh elections for all Parliamentary seats, instead of by-elections.

“This directive would not amount to by-elections or recalls. It would constitute a fresh election for all parliamentary seats. The presidency and county governments would continue to operate without interruption,” the fake notice read in part.
The latest development came barely hours after MPs paralysed all committee seatings on Tuesday, August 19 2025, with only the Committee on Implementation meeting proceeding.
MPs were irked when William Ruto Accused a cross section of MPs of receiving bribes to vote against the recently enacted anti-money laundering law.
Addressing the legislators on Monday, August 18, 2015, during a joint parliamentary group meeting with UDA and ODM MPs, the President disclosed that he is privy of corrupt dealings within different parliamentary committees.
“There are legitimate concerns about how resources are being spent at the counties, and we cannot run away. By virtue of the position I hold today, I am a consumer of raw intelligence. I know what’s going on,” Ruto said.
He went on to reveal that some MPs were compromised with millions of shillings to frustrate critical laws.

“Do you, for example, know that a few members of your committee collected Sh 10 million so that you don’t pass that law on anti-money laundering? Did you get the money?” he asked.
Ruto also raised questions on how some county officials access large sums of money.
“Where does somebody find Sh 150 million? Is that his money? That is money that belongs to the county,” he added.
Ruto warned that corruption was eroding the credibility of Parliament and undermining public trust.
He wrapped up by warning that going forward his government will not only shame corrupt MPa but also have them arrested.
Following Ruto’s outburst in Parliament, some MPs came out demanding that he be summoned to testify before the house over corruption allegations.
