KCB Off to flying start in African Club championship with straight-sets victory

Two-time African club champions KCB Volleyball Club began their 2026 African Club Championship campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Nigeria’s Vipers and Partners in straight sets.

The Bankers secured a convincing 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) in their opening Group D match played at the Al Ahly Sports Club Complex.

Speaking after the match, KCB player Deborah Jesang, who is featuring in her third club championship, acknowledged both the positives and areas for improvement.

“We made some mistakes in this game, but we rectified them. The coach invested in our young players who started today’s match, and we look forward to an even better performance in the next one,” Jesang said.

Head coach Japheth Munala explained that the decision to field less experienced players was intentional, aimed at building squad depth.

“We started the game with inexperienced players to help them acclimatize to the tournament. We are not taking any team or any game for granted,” Munala said.
