The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued its seven-day weather forecast for the period of January 1 to January 6, 2025, noting a reduction in rainfall across several parts of the country.
The weather outlook predicts predominantly sunny and dry conditions for most regions, with light showers expected in some areas.
The coastal region and isolated parts of the South-eastern lowlands and Highlands East of the Rift Valley may experience occasional rainfall.
Additionally, temperatures are forecasted to be above 30°C during the day in regions such as the Coast, North-eastern, North-western Kenya, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, South Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Southeastern lowlands.
Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in certain areas, particularly in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley, and Southeastern lowlands.
In the Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, as well as parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, sunny intervals are expected throughout the day, with counties like Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok experiencing these conditions.
Similarly, the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, including Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, and West Pokot counties, will experience sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy nights.
The same weather pattern is expected in North-western Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu counties.
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi Counties, mostly sunny intervals are predicted, with a few areas near Mt. Kenya potentially seeing light to moderate afternoon showers. Nights in these areas will be partly cloudy.
North-eastern Kenya, covering counties like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will experience sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy nights.
The South Rift Valley may see light to moderate afternoon showers and thunderstorms, while the South-eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and parts of Tana-River, will have mostly sunny conditions, with some light showers expected in a few areas during the first half of the forecast period.
The coastal region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana-River, will experience sunny intervals in the morning, followed by occasional showers in the afternoon.
The South Coast, in particular, may see light showers early in the forecast period. Daytime temperatures along the coast will range between 32°C and 33°C.
