Kenya will next week host senior government officials, employers and workers’ representatives from five African countries for a regional forum aimed at advancing decent work opportunities for refugees and the communities that host them.
The PROSPECTS Africa Forum on Decent Work and Forced Displacement will be held from July 21 to 23, 2026, at the Mövenpick Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi.
The meeting will bring together tripartite delegations from Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda, reflecting a shared commitment to improving employment opportunities and economic inclusion for people affected by forced displacement.
Convened by the International Labour Organization (ILO) under the PROSPECTS partnership—a multi-agency initiative supporting countries responding to forced displacement—the forum will also attract representatives from the East African Community (EAC), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
As one of Africa’s largest refugee-hosting nations, Kenya is expected to play a central role in discussions, with participants examining the country’s policies and experiences in promoting access to employment and livelihoods for both refugees and host communities.
The three-day forum will assess progress made in creating sustainable employment opportunities, strengthen dialogue among governments, employers and workers on labour issues in displacement settings, and identify priority policy reforms to guide the implementation of PROSPECTS Phase II (2024–2027).
Delegates will also explore ways to enhance regional cooperation on labour mobility, recognition of skills and qualifications, and the expansion of social protection systems for displaced populations and their host communities.
The meeting is expected to reinforce collaboration among African countries in addressing the economic challenges associated with forced displacement while promoting inclusive labour markets and sustainable livelihoods across the region.
