Police in Nairobi have disrupted an alleged narcotics distribution network following an overnight operation in Kasarani Sub-County that led to the recovery of a large consignment of cannabis and the arrest of eight suspects.
The operation was carried out at a residential house in Githurai 44 after officers received intelligence reports and information from members of the public regarding suspected drug-related activities at the premises.
According to police, the officers moved in and conducted a detailed search of the property, uncovering narcotics and materials believed to have been used in packaging and processing the drugs.
Among the items recovered were 250 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, 1,800 rolling papers, a 25-kilogramme sack containing white polythene packaging materials, and a large metallic sieving mesh suspected to have been used in preparing the narcotics.
Police said eight individuals found at the scene were arrested and taken into custody as investigations continue.
“The suspects were apprehended and escorted to the station for processing before being presented in court. All recovered exhibits have been secured at the police station’s exhibit store,” police said.
The National Police Service praised the officers involved in the operation, saying the seizure was a major step in disrupting the supply and distribution of illegal drugs within the city.
Police also acknowledged the role played by residents in providing information that helped authorities track down the suspected drug operation.
“We appreciate members of the public for their continued support and cooperation in the fight against narcotics and other forms of crime,” the service said.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies, noting that public participation remains crucial in combating drug trafficking and abuse.
The latest operation comes amid increased efforts by security agencies to crack down on illegal drug networks operating in different parts of Nairobi and other urban areas.
