Kenyans praise Mike Sonko for rescuing daughter from violent husband

Kenyans from all walks of life have lauded former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko for rescuing his daughter, Salma Mbuvi, from an allegedly violent marriage.

On the evening of Sunday, November 16, Sonko shared a video expressing his disappointment with his son-in-law, whom he accused of assaulting Salma after she asked for money to buy breakfast for their children.

In the video, Sonko documented how he stormed Salma’s house in the company of his bodyguards to confront the man, whom he claimed had been repeatedly assaulting his daughter.

The politician revealed that Salma had called her mother, Primrose, seeking help after receiving slaps and blows from her husband.

Acting swiftly, Sonko drove to Kitengela, confronted his son-in-law, and took his daughter away from the home.

He directed the man to visit him with his parents so they could resolve the matter amicably.

According to Sonko, this was not the first time the man had reportedly hit his daughter.

He said he had tolerated the situation for a long time but finally decided to intervene to prevent any unfortunate outcome in the future.

Through the confrontation, it emerged that Sonko had been financially supporting his son-in-law, paying school fees for the children, buying household supplies, and even gifting the couple a Range Rover Vogue to ensure a comfortable life.

It was therefore shocking to many that the same man had allegedly turned on his wife despite the support accorded to him.

The video of Sonko highlighting the issues in his daughter’s marriage sparked mixed reactions online, with many praising him for stepping in to protect Salma.

Others commended him for exercising restraint and not harming his son-in-law, noting that they would have reacted more violently in his position.

Sonko was widely hailed as a responsible father and father-in-law who looks after his children and their spouses.

However, a section of netizens faulted him, arguing that he should not have interfered in his daughter’s marriage.

Some suggested he confronted the man boldly only because of his wealth, power, and influence.
