The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a statement rejecting false claims circulating on social media that Nyambaria Boys High School topped the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
In an official clarification released on Thursday, January 9, KNEC confirmed that the post, which had gone viral, was not legitimate and did not reflect the true KCSE results or rankings.
The viral post had erroneously claimed that Nyambaria Boys High School had achieved a mean score of 10.897 and a grade of A-minus (A-), positioning the school at the top of the rankings for the 2024 exams.
The post also made similar unfounded claims about other schools, such as Cardinal Otunga Girls in Kisii, Kakuro Boys in Migori, and Alliance Girls, among others.
These unverified rankings included several schools that purportedly had exceptional performances, with some even listed as having achieved a B+ grade.
In response, KNEC strongly dismissed the claims, stating that the list shared on social media was entirely fabricated and did not align with the official results.
The examination body urged the public to disregard such misleading information and rely solely on verified announcements made by KNEC.
This is not the first time KNEC has had to intervene regarding false information related to Nyambaria Boys High School’s performance.
In January 2024, a similar viral post claimed that the school had topped the 2023 KCSE exams, with an unsubstantiated A plain grade for all students.
KNEC promptly denied these claims, emphasizing that such information was incorrect.
Nyambaria Boys High School has been in the spotlight for its impressive performance in past years, including its standout results in the 2022 KCSE, where the school achieved a mean grade of 10.89, with 28 students scoring straight A’s.
In a related update, KNEC also addressed the temporary issue with its online portal that caused delays for candidates attempting to access their 2024 KCSE results.
The council explained that the portal had experienced a significant volume of requests, up to 300,000 hits per second, which led to delays.
However, KNEC assured candidates and the public that the issue has been resolved and the portal is now fully operational, allowing candidates to view their results.
KNEC urged the public to always rely on official statements from the council and avoid the spread of unverified information.
