M-Pesa operator fatally stabbed in Rongo robbery


Police in Migori County launched investigations into the murder of a 30-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed near her home in Rongo.

According to the police, the incident was reported on the night of April 10, 2026, after local authorities received information that a person had been stabbed in the Slaughter area.

Officers who responded to the scene found the victim, identified as Hafline Achieng, lying unconscious on a staircase within a residential apartment compound, in a pool of blood.

She had sustained a deep stab wound on her right shoulder that penetrated to the back.

She was rushed to Royal Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased, who operated an M-Pesa business in Rongo town, had closed her shop at around 8:00 p.m. and was heading home in the company of an unidentified man.

Witnesses say the two were seen talking within the compound shortly before neighbours heard her screams.

Residents who rushed to the scene found her bleeding on the staircase, while the suspect had already fled.

Police processed the scene and have launched a manhunt for the unidentified attacker. The body was moved to Rosewood Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have classified the case as murder, with investigations ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Kakamega County launched investigations into a suspected murder after a man was found dead with a head injury in Matungu Sub-County.

The incident, reported on the evening of April 10, 2026, happened in Musamba Location, Lutasio B village.

The deceased has been identified as Titus Wekesa, aged about 54 years.

Police say his body was discovered inside a rented mud house, with a visible injury on the forehead, raising suspicion of foul play.

According to his landlord and neighbour, the deceased had previously sold his ancestral land about three years ago and relocated, only to later return and rent the house where he was found dead.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

And police in Migori County launched investigations after the decomposing body of a 38-year-old man was discovered inside his house in Suna West Sub-County.

According to officers from Bondo Nyironge Police Station, the incident was reported on April 10, 2026 in Wasweta II Sub-location, Suna South Location.

The discovery was made after residents raised concern over a foul smell emanating from the house of Victor Onyango, who lived alone.

Family members indicated that the deceased had not been seen for more than a week prior to the discovery.

Police officers visited and processed the scene, with preliminary investigations launched to establish the cause of death.

The body was moved to Akidiva Morgue, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
