Machakos County responds harshly after Oga Obinna hosted Sammy Kioko on his show

The Machakos County Government has issued a strongly worded letter to media personality Steve Thompson Magana, popularly known as Oga Obinna, demanding evidence and clarification over claims aired on his online program regarding alleged unpaid dues to comedian and content creator Sammy Kioko.

In an official communication dated November 12, 2025, and signed by Juliet Nthambi, the County Solicitor, the government expressed its displeasure over remarks made during an episode of The Obinna Show Live, which aired on November 10, 2025.

The episode was titled “Obinna Show Live: When Politics Crushes Dreams | Sammy Kioko’s Heartbreaking Story.”

According to the letter, the county government took issue with statements made by Sammy Kioko alleging that the Machakos County Government had failed to pay for services allegedly rendered by him or his company.

The county maintained that such allegations were baseless and aimed at “whipping emotions and turning the public against the County Government of Machakos unnecessarily.”

“At no point can the County Government deal in any way with the said Sammy Kioko as he is not a duly authorized director, shareholder, or registered beneficial owner of the said company,” the letter stated.

“Any discussions and dissemination of information shared by him are therefore misleading,” the letter added.

The county also demanded that Obinna furnish them with records or evidence proving Sammy Kioko’s claims, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action against Obinna and his team for allegedly publishing and disseminating false information.

“This letter is therefore to demand that you supply us with the documents confirming the said claim against the County Government of Machakos. Failure to do so will force us to take legal action for hosting and publishing false and malicious information,” added the letter.

The County Government further clarified that procurement and payment processes are governed strictly by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act and that any official dealings are conducted only with prequalified and registered suppliers.

It also emphasized that Kioko’s name does not appear anywhere in its supplier registry or as a director in any of the companies doing business with the county.

The letter went on to list several points asserting that:

• Sammy Kioko is not a registered supplier with Machakos County.

• He is not listed as a director or contact person in any company supplying the county.

• He failed to produce any documentation proving ownership, directorship, or authorization to transact on behalf of any registered entity.

The county concluded that the show’s discussion reflected “ignorance of facts and the law in respect to procurement and contracts” and urged Obinna to “be guided and comply” by providing all evidence related to the broadcast.

The controversial episode, which was streamed on Obinna’s YouTube channel Obinna TV Extra, has since garnered significant attention, with fans of both Obinna and Kioko weighing in on social media.

The letter prompted Obinna to take to social media to share the development with his fans.

He posted the letter, followed by;

“Wueh🤦🏿‍♂️🙆🏿‍♂️. . Nataka mniombee – makosa imefanyika🤣 . Is this a LEGIT DOCUMENT? Is this real ama naota jamani🤔. . The latest ugly turn of events unfolded barely two hours after Kioko appeared on Oga Obinna’s show on the night of Monday, November 10, where he spoke in detail about his dispute with the Machakos County Government and Governor Wavinya Ndeti over a multi-million shilling unpaid tender.

According to Kioko, his company supplied products and services worth Sh19 million to the county but has yet to receive payment.

The comedian said he has been pursuing the pending payment for over a year, but all efforts have so far been unsuccessful.

As is customary on the show, Obinna called on his fans and other Kenyans to contribute and help Kioko get back on his feet.

Within less than 30 minutes, viewers rallied behind the comedian and donated Sh221,000 in support.

Kioko was visibly emotional upon learning the amount raised and tearfully expressed his gratitude to Kenyans for standing with him.
