A security bouncer at a Kisumu nightclub is nursing gunshot injuries after he was shot by an unknown assailant in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred at around 3:20am in Kisumu Central Sub-County as the victim aged 32, was reportedly heading to an M-Pesa kiosk to deposit Sh8,000.
According to police, the man who works as a security bouncer at Mamba Club, was confronted by an unidentified man who pushed him, triggering a confrontation.
The assailant reportedly pulled out a pistol during the altercation and shot him once on the right side of the head before fleeing.
He sustained injuries and was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.
It is not clear if they managed to steal from the victim.
The motive for the shooting had not been established, while investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect.
And police in Emuhaya, Vihiga County, shot dead a 22-year-old man who allegedly confronted an officer with a machete during a night-time robbery at a homestead.
The incident occurred at Ekalabala Village, Esurulo Sub-location, Ebutongoi Location, in the early hours of Monday, September 21, 2026.
Police said a group of about three suspected robbers forcibly broke into a house at around midnight and began ransacking it.
The occupants raised an alarm, prompting a police officer to respond to the scene.
According to preliminary police reports, one of the suspects, identified as Joseph Mochi, 22, allegedly confronted the officer while armed with a panga and attempted to attack him. During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly struck the upper hand guard of the officer’s AK-47 rifle.
The officer subsequently fired two rounds, fatally injuring Mochi.
The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and the right side of the abdomen, with the bullets reportedly exiting through the right pelvic region.
Police recovered two spent cartridges at the scene, as well as a bullet head found on a bed.
The incident also involved an alleged sexual assault.
Scenes of Crime officers from Vihiga processed the scene before the deceased’s body was moved to the Vihiga Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the attempted robbery, shooting and alleged sexual assault are ongoing.
