A 29-year-old Ugandan national was intercepted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with cosmetic products suspected to contain heroin and cocaine.
The passenger was intercepted at around 5:30am on Monday, September 21, 2026, by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) officers manning the screening machine at the Terminal 1C economic entrance.
He was reportedly travelling to Istanbul aboard a Turkish Airlines flight when officers detected the suspicious items among assorted cosmetic products.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly told officers that he had been sent to deliver the items to a Kenyan national residing in Turkey.
Samples taken from pellets and body lotion were subjected to preliminary tests by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) at JKIA.
The tests reportedly returned positive results for heroin in the pellets and cocaine in the body lotion.
Following the preliminary findings, the suspect was detained as further comprehensive testing and investigations are undertaken.
The suspected narcotic substances were secured as investigations continue to establish their source, intended recipient and the circumstances under which they were being transported out of the country.
Narcotics trafficking has been on a slow trend at the main airports due to alertness by the security agencies.
The teams have been seizing the narcotics which has scared some traffickers.
