Man arrested after neighbour is killed in assault over theft allegations in Isiolo


Police in Isiolo County arrested a man accused of fatally assaulting his neighbour in Shambani Village following allegations of theft.

Police said the incident was reported on March 14, 2026 at about 1:00 a.m. by the area manager of Shambani Village, Gabriel Ekwom.

The victim, identified as Erot Losike, a 43-year-old man, had reportedly been seriously assaulted by his neighbour who accused him of repeatedly stealing from his house.

Police officers led by the duty officer, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and crime scene investigators, visited the scene where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with multiple cut wounds on the head and other parts of the body.

Losike was rushed to Isiolo County Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was later transferred to the hospital’s mortuary where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene and recovered a machete believed to have been used in the attack. The weapon has since been secured as an exhibit.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as John Eila, a 42-year-old man, who is currently in custody at Isiolo Police Station.

Authorities said he is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations into the murder continue.

Elsewhere in Macalder, Nyatike, Migori County, a miner was killed after a gold mine site collapsed.

The deceased was said to be a Burundian and was identified as Amani Fabian, 24. He was in the company of other miners at the site when it collapsed on March 13, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary where an autopsy was planned.

And in Naishi, Nakuru County, one Petro Chege, 55 was found dead at a quarry. He is said to have been working at the site when it collapsed. The stones buried him alive.

His body was later removed to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
