Kenya has not recorded any confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), the Ministry of Health has announced, even as authorities continue to strengthen surveillance and preparedness measures amid ongoing outbreaks in parts of the region.
Speaking during the Principal Secretaries’ Monthly Meeting, Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Muriuki assured the country that Kenya remains on high alert and has put in place robust systems to detect and respond to any potential cases.
“Kenya has not recorded any confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease. We have tested 25 suspected samples and all have returned negative results,” Muriuki said.
The meeting was attended by several senior government officials, including Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga, who joined discussions on the country’s public health preparedness.
According to the Ministry of Health, surveillance efforts have been significantly enhanced at points of entry across the country, with more than 74,000 travellers screened as part of measures to prevent the importation and spread of the deadly virus.
“We have intensified screening at border points, strengthened surveillance systems, enhanced laboratory readiness, sensitised healthcare workers, and activated rapid response mechanisms across the country,” Muriuki said.
The Principal Secretary noted that the government is working closely with county governments, regional health bodies, and international partners to ensure Kenya remains prepared to respond swiftly in the event of a suspected case.
“The Ministry of Health remains on high alert. We are collaborating with counties, regional partners, and international agencies to strengthen early detection, rapid response, and public awareness efforts aimed at protecting the health and safety of all Kenyans,” she added.
Health officials have also continued to conduct public awareness campaigns while ensuring health facilities are equipped to identify, isolate, and manage suspected Ebola cases should they arise.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining vigilance and urged members of the public to remain informed through official channels while observing recommended public health measures.
The update comes as several countries in the region continue to monitor Ebola outbreaks, prompting governments to enhance cross-border surveillance and emergency preparedness systems to prevent the disease from spreading.
