Mixed reactions as MP Didimus Barasa dorns tattered uniform as he commissions construction of classrooms

Kenyan politicians will do just about anything to please voters whenever elections are around the corner and MP Didimus Barasa is not an exception.

The Kimilili legislator on Thursday, September 25, 2025, was the guest of honour at the commissioning of the construction of eight classrooms at the Daraja Mungu Primary School.

The politician arrived at the event early, rocking the primary school’s uniform to show solidarity.

Well, in his usual demeanor, Barasa showed up in a tattered pair of shorts, a white shirt and tie all in a bid to touch the hearts of parents, teachers and students.

Taking to his Facebook page, he posted several photos from the event followed by the caption;

“Wearing the school uniform at Daraja Mungu Primary during the commissioning of 8 modern classrooms was more than just a gesture—it was an awakening. It carried me back to the humble beginnings every child experiences in pursuit of education.

In that uniform, I felt the silent struggles, the burning dreams, and the unbreakable resilience of our learners. It was a powerful reminder that investing in modern, dignified classrooms is not about buildings, but about hope, dignity, and the future of our children.

The fact that some go to school on an empty stomach and bare feet should not kill their dream of becoming who they desire to.

While his post impressed some of his followers who lauded him for showing humility, it also irked a section of Kenyans on social media who launched a scathing attack against him.

Others claimed he did all that not because he cares but because he was baiting for votes ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Election.

It should be noted Barasa recently announced his candidature for the Bungoma County’s gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections.

This is not the first time Barasa is making headlines with his theatrics.

A couple of years ago, he went viral after photos of him helping constructions workers put up a mud-walled classroom found their way into the interwebs.

In the photos, Barasa rocked an old pair of shorts and a tattered shirt to prove, rather confirm his humility.
