Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has guaranteed Kenyans enhanced security during the festive season, while cautioning against actions that could disrupt peace and order.
Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“I assure Kenyans that their safety is well taken care of as they enjoy the festive season,” he said.
The CS urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and avoid overindulgence. This marked his first public address on security matters since assuming the interior docket.
“Everyone must act responsibly during the holidays. Avoid overindulgence and ensure your celebrations remain within the bounds of the law,” he emphasized.
Murkomen highlighted that security measures had been strengthened nationwide, ensuring smooth travel for Kenyans heading to their rural homes.
He criticized motorists who contribute to traffic congestion through indiscipline, especially during the holiday rush.
Speaking at a wedding in Fort Ternan, along the Kisumu-Kericho border, Murkomen, accompanied by Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, called for strict adherence to traffic rules.
“Motorists must obey traffic regulations to prevent unnecessary gridlocks,” he stated, adding that the Interior Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Transport to ensure safe and seamless travel.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, also present at the event, praised President William Ruto for promoting national unity through an inclusive government.
“We commend the President for expanding his administration to bring Kenyans together,” Ichung’wah said.
