President William Ruto on Saturday called on parents to take an active role in instilling moral values in their children to address the growing challenges of crime and social vices.
Speaking at a wedding in Mombasa, the President stressed that blame games would not solve issues such as femicide and drug trafficking.
Instead, he highlighted the importance of parental responsibility in shaping children’s character.
Ruto attended the wedding of Fatma and Zakir, the son of businessman Imran Khosala.
The bride is the granddaughter of former Kisauni MP Said Hemed.
“The criminals we deal with are our children from our homes. It is our responsibility to guide them and ensure they do not become offenders,” Ruto remarked, urging parents to take the lead in shaping a morally upright generation.
While reaffirming the government’s commitment to essential services like education and healthcare, Ruto warned that the government would act decisively against crime.
“We will intervene firmly to deal with criminals—those who kill, engage in drug trafficking, femicide, and other unlawful acts,” he stated.
The President underscored the need for a joint effort between parents and the government to foster a morally upright society, stressing that collective action is key to securing the nation’s future.
