Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has issued a stern warning to non-profit organizations, urging them not to misuse donor funds for illegal activities, including terrorism.
Speaking at the launch of a risk assessment for terrorism financing within the non-profit sector on Thursday, PS Omollo stressed the importance of ensuring that donations are used solely for their intended purposes.
He highlighted that the government has intensified financial oversight of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), noting, however, that some organizations have been reluctant to reveal their funding sources.
“This assessment involves a range of agencies, reflecting our commitment to improving collaboration across various sectors,” Omollo stated.
He also emphasized the potential risks posed by Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), urging closer cooperation to address vulnerabilities and prevent misuse of resources.
Lindon Nicolas, the acting CEO of the Public Benefit Organization Regulatory Authority, echoed Omollo’s concerns, stressing the need for full adherence to regulations.
He warned that failure to comply could lead to the deregistration of non-state organizations as part of a broader effort to cleanse the sector.
