Acting on a tip-off from vigilant neighbors, detectives from Rachuonyo North arrested Barnabas Okello, 34, in South Kanyaluo for allegedly trafficking marijuana and possessing what appeared to be a firearm.
With support from KPS officers at Kendubay Police Station, the team raided Okello’s residence, where they seized a homemade firearm loaded with four rounds, police gear, multiple rolls of bhang, balaclavas, and camouflage clothing.
Additionally, officers found evidence suggesting Okello may have been involved in other illicit activities within the region.
The arrest followed growing concerns from local residents, who had noticed Okello’s suspicious behavior, including reports of him frequently seen in the area with unidentified individuals and engaging in unusual activities.
The authorities are now investigating whether Okello was part of a larger criminal network.
Police commended the community for its proactive role in ensuring safety, stressing the importance of sharing reliable information to protect neighborhoods.
They also encouraged other residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support from the public and assure everyone that we remain committed to safeguarding the community throughout the festive season,” a police spokesperson stated,
emphasizing efforts to maintain security during the Christmas and New Year period.
They also assured the public that increased patrols and surveillance would continue as part of the enhanced security measures during the holidays.
