Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has announced his dream team ahead of the 2027 General Election, in which he intends to challenge President William Ruto for the president.
On February 11, 2025, Wajackoyah unveiled his roster in a dramatic billboard showcasing a mix of seasoned politicians and important personalities.
Wajackoyah, who received 61,969 votes in the 2022 election, shared his proposal for a balanced leadership team.
He will lead the Peoples Party’s presidential campaign, with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru serving as his running mate for Deputy President.
Waiguru is spending her second and last term as governor.
Former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was named Prime Minister of Wajackoyah’s planned government.
Other notable selections include Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as Speaker of the National Assembly and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah as Senate Speaker.
Wajackoyah’s lineup also includes Governors George Natembeya and Fatuma Achani, as well as significant legal personalities including LSK President Faith Odhiambo and former Chief Justice David Maraga.
Natembeya would be Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Odhiambo as National Treasury Secretary, and Achani as Matiang’i’s deputy.
Maraga is likely to become Attorney General.
Wajackoyah, angered by his absence from President Ruto’s “broad based government,” promised to provide alternative leadership in 2027.
He also repeated his support for marijuana legalization, which is an important part of his presidential campaign agenda.
