Former Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Adan Abdulla Mohamed was officially appointed as the new Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), taking over from Humphrey Wattanga.
The appointment, published in a Special Issue of The Kenya Gazette dated May 18, 2026, showed that Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Mohammed under Section 11(1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act for a three-year term effective immediately.
This followed after an interview conducted on Monday, May 18, on eight shortlisted candidates.
Adan Abdulla Mohamed has been an adviser to President William Ruto. He also currently serves as Chief of Strategy Execution at State House under President William Ruto’s administration.
Mohamed brings over three decades of experience in banking, economic policy, trade and public administration.
KRA Board Chairman Hon. Ndiriitu Muriithi, also welcomed his appointment.

His track record in banking, management consulting and public policy is exceptional, and his contribution to economic reform in Kenya is well documented. The Board is confident that he will provide steady, results-driven leadership as we work to mobilise revenue for national development,” Hon. Muriithi said.
He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Kenya, Managing Director for Barclays East and West Africa, and Chief Administrative Officer for Barclays Africa, where he oversaw operations across ten countries.
His public service experience includes serving as Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization and Trade and later leading the East African Community and Regional Development docket.
