President William Ruto has announced significant leadership changes in multiple state entities, with new appointments and revocations taking effect in January 2025.
The changes, made public through official gazette notices, reflect ongoing adjustments within the leadership structures of key government bodies.
Revocation of Joe Owaka Ager’s Appointment
In a gazette notice dated January 28, 2025, President Ruto revoked the appointment of Joe Owaka Ager as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya.
Ager had previously been appointed to this role after his removal from the National Mining Corporation Chairmanship in 2023.
The notice states that the revocation will take effect from January 31, 2025.
In 2023, President Ruto had appointed Joseph Lagat as the new chairperson of the National Mining Corporation following Ager’s removal, with Lagat’s term set to last until October 2024.
Kiemi Mwandia Removed from Tanathi Water Works Board
In another key move, President Ruto revoked the appointment of Dr. Kiemi Mwandia as a member of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board, effective January 31, 2025.
This decision was announced in a separate gazette notice issued on the same date.
Following Mwandia’s removal, Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa appointed Nicholas Wambua Muthangya to the board. Muthangya will serve a three-year term, beginning on January 31, 2025.
Appointments in the Tourism and Wildlife Sector
In the tourism sector, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano appointed Nancy Waturi Mathenge as a member of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees.
Mathenge will serve a three-year term, beginning on January 31, 2025. Additionally, the appointments of Peter Fredrick Moll and Edward Norton were revoked as part of the reshuffle.
Education and MSMEs Appointments
In the education sector, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revoked Bob Ndubi’s appointment as a member of the Council of Kisii University, with effect from January 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, Wycliffe Oparanya, the Cabinet Secretary for MSMEs, appointed Martha Wanjiru Miano to the Board of Directors of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA).
Her appointment, which also takes effect on January 31, 2025, is for a three-year term. Oparanya’s announcement also included the revocation of Adan Sheikh Abdullahi’s appointment.
Defence Sector Appointments
In the defense sector, Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya made several appointments to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Pension Appeals Committee.
The newly appointed members include Col. (Dr.) C. O. Ondego, Col. S. C. Yator, Col. (Rtd.) L. L. Muluvi, Col. (Rtd.) M. M. Nchuurai, and Elly Onger.
These appointments are effective January 31, 2025, and will last for three years.
