Safaricom Addresses Data Privacy Concerns Regarding Customer Information Sharing.

Safaricom has addressed recent discussions surrounding data privacy and the sharing of customer information with security agencies and third parties.

The company has issued the following clarifications:

Firstly, Safaricom emphasizes its commitment to protecting customer privacy and strictly adhering to national data protection regulations.

Customer data will not be shared unless mandated by a court order.

It’s important to note that Call Data Records (CDRs) do not provide real-time location tracking of customers.

Instead, these records are generated only after a call has ended, and text messages are logged once sent or received, primarily for billing purposes.

In July 2012, Safaricom partnered with Neural Technologies to deploy a Fraud Management System (FMS) across all its business operations, including mobile money services.

Neural Technologies, a reputable firm operating in over 30 countries, specializes in fraud detection and prevention, ensuring that no third-party has access to sensitive data.

Recently, Safaricom achieved the ISO 27701 Privacy Information Management System (PIMS) certification from the British Standards Institute (BSI).

This certification, awarded after a comprehensive audit, underscores the company’s dedication to upholding data privacy standards and reflects its role as a responsible data controller.

Finally, Safaricom reassures its customers of its ongoing commitment to transparency and integrity in interactions with stakeholders.

The company aims to uphold the trust it has cultivated with its customers over the years.
