Sh19 million saga: Kalonzo Musyoka visits Sammy Kioko in hospital after beating from Machakos County goons

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday evening visited embattled businessman Sammy Kioko at Nairobi West Hospital following a violent incident that has since sparked national outrage.

Kioko is currently receiving treatment after he was allegedly attacked by goons linked to a simmering dispute involving Machakos County, in what has come to be widely referred to as the Sh19 million saga.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Kalonzo expressed deep concern over Kioko’s condition, describing him as someone close to his heart.

“This evening, I visited Sammy Kioko at Nairobi West Hospital to stand with him and his family during this difficult time. Sammy is like a son to me, and I continue to pray for his quick and full recovery,” Kalonzo wrote.

The former Vice President also revealed that he had engaged Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti over the incident, noting that she had shown concern and willingness to ensure justice is served.

“I also spoke with Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who is deeply concerned by this unfortunate incident and is keen to ensure that the matter is handled fairly and transparently,” he added.

Kalonzo called for calm and restraint as investigations continue, emphasizing the need for facts to guide the process rather than emotions or speculation.

“My hope and prayer are that this issue will now proceed with calm, sobriety, and a clear focus on the facts, so that Sammy can heal in peace and the truth can emerge without unnecessary distraction,” he stated.

He further underscored the importance of prioritizing Kioko’s recovery and protecting the dignity of his family during the ongoing controversy.

“At this moment, what matters most is Sammy’s well-being, the dignity of his family, and the need for this matter to be concluded in a just and respectful manner.”

Background Of The Sh19 Million Saga

The incident stems from a long-running dispute over a reported Sh19 million tender deal involving Machakos County, which has in recent days escalated into a public standoff.

Sources indicate that Kioko has been at the center of the disagreement, which allegedly involves payment claims and contractual obligations tied to county projects.

Tensions surrounding the matter boiled over earlier this week when Kioko was reportedly ambushed and assaulted by a group of individuals believed to be goons.

The attack left him with serious injuries, prompting his urgent admission to hospital.

The shocking nature of the assault has triggered widespread condemnation from leaders, civil society groups, and Kenyans online, many of whom have called for swift investigations and accountability.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti has since distanced her administration from the violence, reiterating her commitment to transparency and the rule of law as authorities probe the incident.

Growing Calls For Justice

The case has now taken on political dimensions, with Kalonzo’s visit signaling growing interest from national leaders.

Observers say his involvement could push for faster investigations and ensure the matter remains in the public spotlight.
