Residents of Kiromwok area in Bomet County have been left reeling in grief and disbelief after a 24-year-old female teacher was brutally hacked to death by her husband on Monday night following a suspected domestic dispute.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the young woman’s body was found lying in a pool of blood within the couple’s compound.
The victim sustained deep panga cuts to her head and hand, injuries police described as fatal and clearly inflicted with intent.
The suspected assailant, 27-year-old Lenox Kipngeno Korir, fled the scene immediately after the grisly attack.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for him, though the murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had a troubling history of domestic conflict.
According to police reports, relatives of the deceased had previously attempted to mediate ongoing disputes between the two, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.
“This was a preventable tragedy,” said a local elder, who noted that tension between the couple had been simmering for some time. “People close to them had seen the warning signs.”
The teacher’s body has been moved to the Longisa Hospital Mortuary as police continue with investigations and the search for the fugitive husband.
Police Commander Imbwaga urged members of the public to assist law enforcement by sharing any information regarding Korir’s whereabouts.
“Anyone who may have seen the suspect or has information on his location should report immediately to the nearest police station,” he said.
The shocking incident has sparked calls for stronger community interventions in domestic violence cases, with residents demanding justice for the slain teacher and urging the government to prioritize safety for women in abusive relationships.
The tragedy adds to the growing number of domestic violence-related deaths reported in the country, raising serious concerns about the need for improved support systems, public awareness, and timely law enforcement response to protect potential victims.
