The nation’s key leaders are set to celebrate Christmas today, Wednesday, at various locations, with themes of unity and reconciliation expected to be central in their church speeches on this significant day.
President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are among the prominent figures marking this special occasion in different parts of the country.
President Ruto has been in his political stronghold of Uasin Gishu, staying at the small Eldoret Palace.
On Monday, the President shared a photo on social media of himself distributing Christmas gifts to orphans and local residents.
“This is another season to remember the less fortunate in society,” he wrote on his official Facebook page.
“I gave Christmas gifts to children from various homes in Uasin Gishu and neighboring areas at the Eldoret Palace.”
Tonight, December 25, 2024, President Ruto is expected to address the nation, extending his holiday greetings as Kenyans celebrate Christmas.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, President Ruto visited his farm in Kilgoris, Narok County, where he met Moussa Faki, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
“I met with Faki to discuss various issues, including the upcoming AUC election, which is being contested by Raila Odinga,” Ruto stated.
Unlike his predecessor, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who typically celebrates Christmas in Mombasa, President Ruto has chosen to mark the occasion at his home in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu.
Meanwhile, Mr. Odinga is at his home in Opoda, Bondo constituency, Siaya County, as part of his tradition of celebrating Christmas there.
Raila Odinga, who will turn 80 on January 7, 2025, has been in Opoda since Monday and, like President Ruto, is expected to make a holiday message for the country.
Odinga is also planning to host Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and President Ruto in Siaya on January 2, 2025, during the Luo Community Festival and the opening of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga field.
Kalonzo Musyoka, who celebrated his 73rd birthday yesterday, will be spending Christmas with his family in Nairobi.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has faced challenges this year following his removal from office, is celebrating Christmas at his home in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County.
