A dramatic emergency landing on a Florida highway left one woman injured and sent commuters into a panic after a small plane suddenly plunged from the sky and collided with her car during rush hour on the evening of Monday, December 8.
A shocking dashcam footage shows a Beechcraft 55 swooping down onto I-95 around 5:45 p.m., striking a Toyota Camry as it attempted a daring emergency landing.
The aircraft’s rear impact sent the car crumpling under the plane before it bounced onto the vehicle’s roof and ultimately came to rest beside it amid a shower of sparks, narrowly missing other vehicles on the busy motorway.
Florida Highway Patrol officials confirmed that the 57-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Camry was rushed to a nearby hospital but, miraculously, suffered only minor injuries.
The pilot, a 27-year-old Orlando resident, and his 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace escaped unharmed, reportedly walking away from the crash without a scratch.
Both remained at the scene as investigators assessed the cause of the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that the pilot experienced engine problems with the twin-engine propeller aircraft moments before the collision.
Eyewitness Jim Coffey, whose dashcam captured the harrowing event, described the terrifying experience:
“We just saw this plane drop out of the sky,” he said.
“It missed my car by just seconds. I noticed it coming and hoped it would land to the side, but bam, the wheel just smacked right on the back of the car.”
His son, Peter, added that the incident was shocking to watch as the aircraft narrowly avoided multiple vehicles before impact.
“Fortunately, the car didn’t roll. It kind of mashed and went to the side,” Jim said.
Images from the scene revealed the mangled remains of the Camry and the severely damaged aircraft, which appeared to have lost its nose and one of its wheels during the crash.
