A woman from Bwayi village in Moi’s Bridge, Uasin Gishu County, has been accused of setting her house on fire, trapping her two young children inside.
The devastating incident, which occurred while the children’s father was away at work, has left the local community in shock and mourning.
Initial reports indicate that the children, aged 2 and 4, were unable to escape the flames and tragically lost their lives in the fire.
Eyewitnesses claim that the woman deliberately set the house ablaze after a heated argument with her husband.
Neighbours, who rushed to the scene in a bid to help, were unable to save the children in time.
“The children were found burned beyond recognition.
The mother was at the scene when the fire started, but when it spread, she ran away.
The father was at work the entire time,” a neighbour said.
The woman’s actions have been widely condemned by the local community, with many expressing outrage over the loss of innocent lives.
“No matter the issues with her husband, she should never have involved the children.
If there were problems, she could have left and gone to her parents’ home. What she did is unforgivable,” one eyewitness told reporters.
Another local resident added, “The mother should have thought about her children’s well-being before making such a tragic decision.”
In response to the horrific event, local authorities have launched a formal investigation into what they suspect is a case of domestic violence resulting in murder.
Law enforcement confirmed that the woman fled the scene shortly after starting the fire, and efforts are underway to locate her.
Uasin Gishu County officials have expressed deep condolences to the grieving father and the wider community, emphasizing the need for individuals in domestic disputes to seek peaceful resolutions and support before situations turn violent.
“This tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the importance of addressing conflicts in a constructive manner,” a county representative remarked.
