12-year-old girl dies in suspected murder in Machakos County


Police in Matungulu, Machakos County, launched investigations after a 12-year-old girl was found unconscious in a house and later died at Kangundo Level IV Hospital.

 

The girl, a Grade Five pupil at Kambusu Primary School, was found on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after she was left alone in the house taking her evening meal.

Police said her sister had gone to irrigate crops in a nearby garden when the girl was discovered unconscious.

The girl was rushed to Kangundo Level IV Hospital.

She was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers from Tala Police Station visited and processed the scene. The girl’s body reportedly had visible marks around the neck, while her undergarments were bloodstained.

The body was moved to Kangundo Mortuary pending a postmortem examination as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

Elsewhere, a 22-year-old man was hacked to death by three attackers while escorting his girlfriend home on a motorcycle in Gem Wagai, Siaya County.

The deceased, Dennis Owino, was attacked at Wangoji in Dienya West Sub-Location shortly before midnight on Monday.

Owino had been accompanying his 18-year-old girlfriend, who had visited him, as she travelled home on a red Boxer 125 motorcycle.

The two were confronted by three people, who attacked Owino with what police believe were sharp weapons. His girlfriend managed to escape unhurt.

Police officers responded to the scene and found Owino with deep cut wounds on his right arm, head and left hand.

He was rushed to Akala Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at about 11pm on Monday.

One of the suspected attackers was identified as Brighton, according to the police report.

The motive for the attack was not immediately established, as nothing was reported stolen from the victim.

The scene was processed, photographed and documented before the body was moved to Kombewa Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest the other suspects.
