Human skeleton recovered along Lake Victoria shores in Homa Bay


Police in Suba North, Homa Bay County, are investigating the recovery of a suspected human skeleton along the shores of Lake Victoria.

The remains were discovered on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by staff conducting patrol duties along the lake shoreline.

A multi-agency team visited the scene and confirmed the discovery.

The scene was processed before the suspected human remains were retrieved from the lakeshore and transported to the Mbita Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

The remains are being preserved pending identification and further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

And police in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, have launched investigations after the body of a middle-aged woman was found dumped along the Chemelil–Miwani road.

Members of the public reported the discovery on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, prompting officers from Chemelil Police Post and DCI Muhoroni to visit the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the woman may have been killed elsewhere before her body was transported and dumped at the roadside.

Police observed injuries around the woman’s mouth, which are suspected to have been caused by a blunt object.

A search of her belongings led to the recovery of a voting card bearing the name Nancy Akinyi Kolya, registered in Tinderet Constituency, Nandi County.

The scene was processed by detectives before the body was moved to Othoo Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending identification and a postmortem examination.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could help establish the woman’s identity, movements or circumstances surrounding her death to come forward.

Police said they are investigating murder in the saga and hope to establish the motive.

No arrest had been made by Thursday morning amid investigations.
