72-year-old man drowns after falling into well in Homa Bay

A 72-year-old man drowned after accidentally falling into a water-filled well in Gongo Village, Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

The incident was reported to Ndiru Police Station at about 9pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased, identified as Samuel Odero Okombo, had been crossing through a homestead when he accidentally slipped and fell into an uncovered well.

The well was approximately 40 feet deep and was full of water.

Members of the public assisted police in retrieving the man’s body from the well.

The body was subsequently moved to MBEKA Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Elsewhere, the body of a 44-year-old man has been recovered from an approximately 25-foot-deep open pit in Kiwandani Kwa Aba area, Kilifi County.

The incident was reported at about 6:55pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Kilifi Police Station.

Police officers and the county fire brigade, responded to the scene.

They found the body lying at the bottom of the deep open pit.

With the assistance of the fire brigade, the body was retrieved and identified as Joseph Ogamba, a 44-year-old Kisii man.

The scene was processed and documented by CSI officers before the body was moved to Kilifi County Hospital mortuary for preservation.

A postmortem examination is expected to establish the cause and circumstances of his death.

Meanwhile police in Murang’a County arrested a man accused of assaulting his 70-year-old father, who later died at his home in Kandara Sub-County.

The incident occurred in Rukira Village, Muruka Location, and was reported on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Police identified the deceased as John Muiruri Guchu, 70, and the suspect as his son, Samuel Guchu Muiruri.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly assaulted his father during a confrontation over a piece of farmland.

He had visible injuries to his face, with blood reportedly oozing from his mouth.

After the incident, members of the public allegedly attacked the suspect, inflicting serious injuries on him. Police officers intervened and rescued him before taking him to Kandara Level 4 Hospital for treatment.

The crime scene was processed and documented by CSI officers.

The deceased’s body was moved to General Kago Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
