Police Officer Among Suspects Arrested In Murder Of Kaspul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were

Shocking new developments have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Kaspul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was shot dead by a lone assailant in Nairobi.

Detectives have confirmed that among the four suspects arrested on Sunday, May 5, is a serving police officer.

The officer was captured on CCTV footage at the scene of the crime and was later apprehended in the Pangani area of Nairobi County.

Further investigations led to the discovery of a vehicle linked to the crime at the police officer’s residence.

The vehicle, which is registered under his name, was allegedly used by the suspects to flee the scene of the fatal shooting.

CCTV footage shows the same vehicle parked outside Embassy House, near the Parliament Buildings, on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 30.

Investigators believe the suspects had lunch at a nearby restaurant around 12:00 p.m. before returning to the vehicle and later trailing the MP.

According to police reports, at approximately 7:30 p.m., as MP Were approached the roundabout near City Mortuary, he was shot by a gunman riding pillion on a high-speed sports motorcycle.

The assailants then sped off, but not before one of them dismounted and entered the aforementioned vehicle waiting near the Railways Bus Station in the CBD.

The National Police Service (NPS) released an official statement on Sunday, May 4, confirming the arrest of four suspects.

Authorities revealed that some of the individuals are suspected members of an organized criminal gang known as “Mjahidin,” which has previously been linked to armed robberies across Nairobi’s Eastlands area.

“NPS investigators and the technical team are working tirelessly, leveraging their expertise to establish the motive behind the fatal shooting and to bring all those involved to justice,” the statement read.

The NPS urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading speculation as investigators continue their work.
