President Donald Trump on Sunday claimed to have achieved a major diplomatic milestone in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, just a day after announcing that he had helped broker a ceasefire between longtime nuclear rivals India and Pakistan.
“A potentially great day for Russia and Ukraine!” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
“Think of the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be saved as this never-ending ‘bloodbath’ hopefully comes to an end.”
Trump did not provide specific details about the nature of the breakthrough, the terms involved, or what role the United States played in the negotiations.
The White House has yet to issue an official statement elaborating on the president’s claims.
In his post, Trump indicated a broader pivot in U.S. foreign policy priorities, emphasizing domestic rebuilding and international trade.
“It will be a whole new, and much better, world. I will continue to work with both sides to make sure that it happens.
The USA wants to focus, instead, on Rebuilding and Trade. A big week upcoming!” he added.
The announcement comes amid escalating global instability and growing calls for de-escalation in major geopolitical flashpoints.
If confirmed, the development would mark the first major move toward a negotiated settlement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict since it began in 2022.
India-Pakistan Ceasefire Also Announced
The declaration follows Trump’s announcement on Saturday, May 10, that he had facilitated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The two nations agreed to halt hostilities after several hours of U.S.-mediated talks in the wake of a deadly missile strike that killed 26 people in India’s Kashmir region on April 22, 2025.
India responded with retaliatory strikes targeting what it said were militant bases in Pakistan-administered territories, reigniting fears of a broader regional conflict.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” Trump said. “Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence.”
The White House confirmed the agreement and said both sides had agreed to begin broader diplomatic discussions at a neutral venue to address long-standing issues, including the disputed Kashmir region.
Though the claims have generated significant global attention, independent verification of either agreement remains pending, and official statements from the governments of Ukraine, Russia, India, or Pakistan had not been released at the time of reporting.
Trump, known for promoting his negotiation skills, is expected to share further details during upcoming public appearances this week.
