Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that President William Ruto deliberately blocked the nomination of Charles Nyachae as the next chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), citing unresolved political grudges with the Kisii community.
Speaking during an interview on Egesa FM on Monday, Gachagua alleged that sources privy to the selection process informed him that the IEBC Selection Panel had forwarded two names Charles Nyachae and Erastus Edung Ethekon to the president for consideration.
However, Gachagua claimed, the president snubbed Nyachae, despite his experience, due to a long-standing feud with the Kisii community.

“The president does not wish well for the Kisii community. We have received reports that Nyachae was the preferred candidate to be the IEBC chairman. The president rejected him,” Gachagua stated.
He further linked the alleged bias to a violent altercation between Ruto and the late veteran politician Simeon Nyachae during the 2007 General Election in South Mugirango, suggesting the grudge still lingers.
President Ruto has not officially responded to the allegations, but the claims are likely to spark political tensions as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.
