Mombasa Woman Arrested Over Child Pornography And Money Laundering Charges

A middle-aged woman, Regina Munyoki alias “Big Mama,” was arraigned at the Mombasa Law Courts on Thursday, facing serious charges of child pornography and money laundering.

The case has sparked concern among local authorities and child protection advocates.

Munyoki was charged before Senior Resident Magistrate Gladys Olimo, accused of distributing explicit images involving minors aged 4, 8, and 14 years.

The charge sheet alleged that she “knowingly and intentionally” published obscene images of the minors on multiple digital platforms, including WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and a pornographic website.

The offences are said to have occurred on various dates between January 1, 2024, and June 1, 2025, at unspecified locations across the country.

According to the prosecution, Munyoki used her mobile phone to upload the explicit images of the minors.

During the hearing, the accused denied the charges. However, she was denied bond pending a ruling on her bond application, which is scheduled for next week.

Principal Prosecution Counsel Breda Ogada strongly opposed her release, citing the gravity of the offences, the vulnerability of the victims, and the risk of interference with ongoing investigations.

Ogada emphasized the need to prioritize the best interests of the children involved, stressing that they require immediate protection and psychological support.

The case has drawn attention to the growing issue of child exploitation and the misuse of digital platforms for illegal activities.

The court will deliver a ruling on Munyoki’s bond application in due course, while investigations into the alleged money laundering charges continue.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving child exploitation.
