Teacher Stabbed At German Vocational College, 17-Year-Old Suspect Shot And Detained


A teacher was seriously injured in a stabbing attack at a vocational college in Essen, western Germany, on Friday morning.

The incident triggered a large-scale police response and a manhunt that ended with officers shooting and apprehending a 17-year-old suspect of Kosovan nationality.

Police were alerted to the attack around 9:30 a.m. and quickly deployed special forces to the BIB vocational college, which offers programs in nutrition, domestic science, social work, and healthcare.

The victim, a 45-year-old teacher, sustained severe injuries and underwent emergency surgery. His current condition has not been disclosed.

“We do not yet know what the motive was,” a police spokesperson told AFP.

Authorities encountered the suspect approximately three kilometers (about two miles) from the college.

According to police, the teenager pulled a knife during the confrontation, prompting officers to use their firearms. The suspect was wounded and is currently receiving medical treatment.

German daily Bild reported that the suspect is a student at the college. The investigation is ongoing.
