Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, officially inaugurated the newly established Magado Field Training Camp in Igembe North, Meru County marking a significant milestone in strengthening the National Police Service’s operational training capacity.
Accompanied by senior police commanders, the DIG addressed the first cohort of trainees currently undergoing intensive field instruction at the facility, urging them to uphold professionalism, discipline and excellence as they prepare for frontline policing duties.
Strategically located along a route that has historically been used by cattle rustlers, the training camp is expected to enhance security in the area by increasing police presence while serving as a dedicated tactical field training facility for the National Police College Main Campus, Kiganjo.
The modern institution is designed to improve practical training and better equip officers to handle complex security operations.
During the visit, the trainees showcased their proficiency in weapons handling and tactical field manoeuvres acquired during their training.
Senior officers also participated in a friendly marksmanship competition, demonstrating their shooting skills at the firing range.
As part of efforts to make the facility self-sustaining, Lagat commissioned a borehole that will provide a reliable and sustainable water supply for the camp, ensuring uninterrupted operations and improving the welfare of officers and trainees.
The new campus is supposed to act like a buffer zone in the area to tame rising cases of cattle rustling. The incidents have led to loss of lives and livestock amid protests from locals.
This prompted authorities to commission the training camp there.
