President William Samoei Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Kenya’s agricultural and trade sectors, describing them as the “twin turbo-engines” of the nation’s prosperity.
Speaking during the official opening of the 2025 Nairobi International Trade Fair at Jamhuri Park, President Ruto highlighted a series of deliberate and strategic reforms aimed at ensuring that the hard work of Kenyan farmers is translated into tangible incomes and sustainable jobs.
“Over the past three years, we have registered over 7.1 million farmers across the country to enable more targeted support,” the President said.
“We have reduced the cost of critical inputs, and partnered with the private sector to invest in value addition through Special Economic Zones, County Aggregation and Industrial Parks, and Common User Facilities.”
These sweeping reforms are already bearing fruit. By addressing long-standing inefficiencies in the agricultural value chain, the government has significantly reduced post-harvest losses, improved productivity, and created stronger linkages between farmers and competitive markets both locally and internationally.
President Ruto emphasized that these efforts are central to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which focuses on inclusive, sustainable, and transformative growth for all Kenyans.
“The Bottom-Up approach is not just a policy it is a promise to uplift every Kenyan by building from the grassroots, empowering producers, and ensuring fair returns for their labour,” he noted.
The 2025 Nairobi International Trade Fair, one of the country’s premier agricultural and commercial exhibitions, showcases the resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of Kenyan farmers and businesses.
It also serves as a platform to explore investment opportunities, promote technology adoption, and foster partnerships across sectors.
President Ruto lauded the event as a reflection of Kenya’s boundless potential and growing economic momentum.
“This Trade Fair is more than just an exhibition. It is a window into the future of a rising Kenya where enterprise is rewarded, innovation thrives, and every citizen has a chance to succeed.”
As Kenya continues to unlock opportunities through strategic reforms and infrastructure investment, the agriculture and trade sectors remain at the heart of a new chapter in national development one defined by empowerment, resilience, and shared prosperity.
