Police officers from the Nairobi Region have arrested two suspected drug dealers in a successful anti-narcotics operation carried out at Umoja 1 Market, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of cannabis.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS), the coordinated raid followed extensive intelligence gathering and was aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks operating within the city.
During the operation, officers recovered approximately 20 kilograms of raw cannabis, along with 3,000 rolls and 33 packaged bundles of the drug.
In a separate but related recovery, the police also confiscated an additional 877 rolls of cannabis sativa.
All recovered items have been secured as evidence, and the suspects are currently in custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to tackle drug distribution and abuse in Nairobi and across the country,” the NPS said in its statement.
“We remain committed to dismantling narcotics networks and safeguarding our communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs.”
The NPS also praised the officers involved for their vigilance and professionalism during the operation, highlighting their continued efforts in combating not only drug trafficking but also the illicit alcohol trade.
Members of the public have been urged to support the fight against narcotics by sharing information with law enforcement agencies and remaining vigilant in their communities.
The arrests come amid a broader national campaign by the NPS to crack down on drug-related crimes and maintain public safety.
