Former State House Chief of Staff, Nzioka Waita, has been appointed as the Africa Managing Director at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI).
The non-profit organization, founded by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, praised Waita’s skills and capabilities, noting that his expertise aligns with TBI’s mission of advising political leaders on strategy, policy, and delivery, all enhanced by technology.
Waita previously served in the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta. In a statement on social media, he expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying:
“I will be privileged to work alongside kindred spirits, a team of like-minded thinkers, doers, and trusted advisors who are committed to supporting political leaders across diverse geographies to execute their mandates effectively, leveraging the benefits of technology and efficient government design for impact and results.”
Prior to his appointment, Waita had worked as an independent advisor with the Tony Blair Institute.
He had served as State House Chief of Staff after founding the Delivery Unit under President Kenyatta’s administration.
Waita also ran for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2022 but was defeated by Wavinya Ndeti.
Before venturing into politics, Waita spent 14 years at Safaricom, including four years as the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sheffield and a Master’s degree in IT and Telecommunications Law from Queen Mary University of London.
The Tony Blair Institute, as outlined on its website, focuses on helping governments and leaders turn ambitious ideas into reality by offering advice on strategy, policy, and delivery, while unlocking the potential of technology in these areas.
